It has long been said that good design is good business--and that starts with how you present yourself through branding. Whether you are just starting out or have a strong foundation going, having a good layout to your work is essential to drawing in your target audience. We’ve put together a few tips to make your design process worthwhile.

» Correlating product with your brand category

Are you targeted towards the art industry or a business industry? Are you a colorful organization or perhaps more neutral? Asking these questions helps you narrow down your search to what the overview of your organization is about and that will help you startup with a general direction.

» Make a broad list

Sit down with the people you are working with on this project. Target your range of two things- one, your view and two, your audience’s view. By doing this you can see what areas of your brand to focus on (i.e. arts, bright, fun, and colorful or fashion, minimalist, trendy) what your audience should take away and whether or not they would reconsider your brand.

» Use adjectives

Just like the ones we used in the example, one-word thoughts and phrases can say a lot. Don’t think too much in this step- but think big. What do you want to be the end result of your project? What are your goals? Keeping these in mind when thinking of what branding you should use.

» Associate colors with those adjectives

This step really has to bring out your creativity- don’t limit yourself too much! At the same time, you can also get more out of setting boundaries to generate ideas where you never saw them coming! Associate “photography” with black and white, fashion with pinks and reds, business with navy blues and professional looks. Keep yourself coordinated, and remember, you don’t need to use the entire spectrum, even just one color can say a lot more!

» Keep things in proportion

Don’t rush the project, but be realistic. Choosing a brand color palette is important to draw the audience to your brand, but the rest comes down to your content. Quality over quantity, and effort over speed is the number one lesson to keep in mind!
